I was listening to the audio book “Wounded Healer” by Henri Nouwen and my soul felt like rain suddenly poured deep and sweet. My CPE training when I was in my late 20’s resurfaced and moved me to a quiet gratitude of what it introduced towards my vocational ministry. Particularly of interest is the centrality of compassion in caring for the flock that God has entrusted me. It speaks of the integrity of dealing with the one as opposed to the acclaim of the hundred. It bolts me back to the non-negotiable awareness of one’s wounds before one can even attempt to face the scars of another. It is no secret that years of ministry can thus erode the fluency of this Christ-flavored being with others. I have to review my posture, lest I remain detached from the heart of the persons in front of me.
